Description

Set of six beautifully presented Coasters with artwork by Iwantja Arts and crafts at Induikana, 8km from the main Stuart Highway in The Anangu Pitjantjatra Lands of South Australia. Established in the 1960’s, 12 square miles of rocky ridge, fenced off on Granite Downs Station for the “Black Camp” because it was seen as no good for anything else. People are mainly Yankunytjatjara. In 1981 artists were shown lino printing, which they took to readily, being similar to wood carving from artifacts. Imagery reflects the environment, peoples’ interaction with it, dreaming stories, body marks for ceremonies and much more, portraying the rich observational kaleidoscope of life as it is for the Anangu Aboriginal person.
Freed from only natural pigments Artists now explore colour with energy and skill, closer depicting the observed landscape. Original Prints are held in many collections and galleries throughout Australia. The Coasters are presented boxed as shown elsewhere in this section. Royalties from the sale of this product go to the Artist.
