Emu Caller - Carved

Beautifully hand carved by an Aboriginal man from the Miss Emily Aboriginal Group from Robinvale in north western Victoria.

Each piece has a different design with various designs to choose from and being made from bush timber he sources each set will be different in size.

Like the Didgeridoo the centre is eaten out by white ants and much time is spent finding suitable timber pieces.

The Emu Caller (Boobinch) is an Aboriginal hunting tool used to attract Emus.  Banging the smaller hollow end with the flat of their hand produces an unusual sound that arouses the Emu’s curiosity and lures it away from the nest so the Aboriginals can safely steal the Emu’s eggs.
